Is monthly averaging broken?

Marjorie Carlson
asked this on February 01, 2011 09:31

The app says my baby's average night sleep for January was 12 hr, 9 min.  That seemed absurdly high, so I averaged the month by hand and got 10 hr 58 min.  The weekly averages are correct, ranging from 10:33 to 11:10.  Why would it be so absurdly off for a monthly average?

In case it makes a difference, I did change time zones once in January and I changed the time period considered night sleep.  Neither of those seemed to throw off the daily or weekly numbers, though.

Thanks!

Edit: I'm attaching the spreadsheet with all the numbers in case it's helpful for recreating the problem.

Hi Marjorie,

Thanks for the bug report, we'll take a look at your numbers and see if we can figure out where the discrepancy is.

What are the hours that you have set for bedtime and wakeup?  We'll probably look at your actual data since you have a sync account.

Bedtime is 19:00, wakeup time 9:00.  Thanks!

Turns out that yes, monthly averaging is broken somewhat.

It will be fixed in version 1.4 of the app due out this week.

I've noticed there is a discrepancy between "monthly stats" and "all time stats" specifically with the number of diapers and amount pumped. I have not looked at other categories. I've only ben using

Rats, hit the wrong button. I've only used the app since January 23rd but it says monthly diapers is at 93 and all time is 87. I thought that was strange because I figured they'd be the same number since it hasn't been a full month or the all time would be higher.
